The photocatalytic activity of titania results in self-cleaning and disinfecting properties under exposure to UV radiation. These properties and the relatively low cost make the material a suitable for a wide range of applications, where preventing algae and bacterial growth is desirable, e.g. when cleaning involves labor and costs. It is also helpful that dust particles are washed away by rainwater from nanomaterial surface.
